You cannot defeat something you don’t know exist or don’t understand….
What exactly are intrusive thoughts?
Intrusive thoughts are ideas and images that comes to mind uninvited and typically unwanted. They can be so annoying.
One greatest advice I would give to anyone in the world in order to defeat such thoughts or anything else is to run and cling to GOD.
The love of GOD casts out fear, and in a way fear is the root of such thoughts.
As I have been victimized by intrusive thoughts, I’ve learnt to deal with them by the grace of GOD.
Here I’ll be sharing different effective ways that I’ve used and still use at times to defeat intrusive thoughts:
- I resist them– James 4, says “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” To me it’s the easiest way to escape those unpleasant thoughts especially when they are intense.
- I pray to GOD to help me get rid of them or for HIM to eradicate them for me. It could just be a short prayer and then I move along. GOD is faithful enough to deliver us from almost everything when we call unto HIM. In Psalm 91:15 , HE says, we shall call unto HIM and HE will answer us. GOD is with us in trouble, HE promised to deliver us on the very same verse Psalm 91. HE is our Father, helper, and our lover. We shoukd trust HIM enough to call HIM and receive HIS help.
- Reading the word, meditating on it and knowing it. –When we our minds are fixed on who GOD is; we get to know HIM deeply, HIS power and HIS love. When our minds are filled with the word of GOD we also get to know who we are in CHRIST. This all assist us in overcoming those foreign thoughts. As 2 Corinth 10:5 says, we cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of GOD, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of CHRIST. We can’t do that if we don’t read and know the word of GOD. Also, knowing the word makes it easier for us to know the thoughts that are from GOD, the devil or ourselves. If you know the what GOD says and do, the tricks of the devil will never work on you or it won’t be easy for the devil to deceive you.
- Having a close relationship with GOD. –This is like the ultimate standard for a child of GOD, to be able to stand against anything and everything. When you are close to the Father , when you listen and talk to HIM all the time how will the devil even get into successfully annoying you with those unbearable thoughts? Listening to HIM also involves obeying, so who wins there? When the voice of GOD is loud in your life, the one of the devil or self will be quiet. When we do as James 4:8 says, getting closer to GOD, there’ll be less things that will put us down.
1 John says, for everyone who has been born of GOD overcomes the world. Wherever you are friend, those thoughts have No power over you in JESUS name. Be free as you read this, as you proclaim this with faith for yourself!
